Analysts are the NT group in Keirsey’s temperament map: intuition plus thinking. The four codes are INTJ, INTP, ENTJ, and ENTP. Popular sites also call them Rationals. Jung’s original language was not “Analyst.” The label is a later grouping. Official MBTI still treats each four-letter type as its own pattern. Take the 16 types test. Overview: 16 types explained.
What NT means
Intuition (N) prefers patterns and possibilities over the isolated fact. Thinking (T) prefers a detached criterion when reaching a conclusion. Together that often looks like interest in systems, competence, models, and arguments that can be checked. It does not mean “smarter,” and it does not mean unkind. Feeling types also reason. Thinking types also attach.
In function language taught around MBTI, ENTJ and INTJ extravert thinking (Te) as a leading or supporting process — organizing the outer world to a standard. ENTP and INTP introvert thinking (Ti) — building an internal logical model. ENTP and INTP extravert or introvert intuition (Ne/Ni) in different orders than the J pair. That is why INTJ and INTP can share three letters and still work very differently.
INTJ
The Foundation sketch: original mind, drive to implement ideas, quick pattern recognition, long-range view, independent, skeptical, high standards of competence. In function talk this type is usually taught as leading with introverted intuition and extraverted thinking. At work that looks like architecture and standards. In relationships it looks like loyalty that may not be narrated. The common miss is a plan other people were not invited into.
INTP
Foundation sketch: seeks logical explanations, theoretical, more interested in ideas than in social interaction, quiet, flexible, skeptical, analytical. Usually taught as leading with introverted thinking and extraverted intuition. At work: analysis, research, systems that are wrong in interesting ways. The common miss is a draft that never ships. A close date is part of the work, not an insult to the model.
ENTJ
Foundation sketch: frank, decisive, assumes leadership, spots inefficiency, builds systems, long-term planning, forceful in presenting ideas. Usually taught as leading with extraverted thinking and introverted intuition. At work: running a thing that has to exist. The common miss is a room that stops bringing bad news because the last messenger was treated as the problem.
ENTP
Foundation sketch: quick, ingenious, stimulating, resourceful with conceptual possibilities, reads people, avoids routine, interests shift. Usually taught as leading with extraverted intuition and introverted thinking. At work: early ideas, debate that has a point. The common miss is several beginnings and no closer.
Research standing
There is no strong evidence that NT types outperform other groups at “strategy jobs,” or that they cannot do care work. Population estimates for individual types vary by sample and instrument; treat internet percentage charts as informal. Retest studies of MBTI often find type changes. Read a close split as a close split.

Functions behind the four codes
In later function teaching, INTJ leads with introverted intuition and extraverted thinking. INTP leads with introverted thinking and extraverted intuition. ENTJ leads with extraverted thinking and introverted intuition. ENTP leads with extraverted intuition and introverted thinking.
