What NF means
Intuition (N) looks for meaning and pattern. Feeling (F) weighs the effect on people and values when concluding. Together that often looks like interest in potential, identity, and whether the work leaves people intact. It does not mean “emotional instead of intelligent.”
In function language, ENFJ and INFJ extravert feeling (Fe) as lead or support — reading and shaping the group’s emotional field. ENFP and INFP introvert feeling (Fi) — a private values compass. That difference is why ENFJ and INFP can both be “feelers” and still conflict about whether harmony or authenticity comes first.
INFJ
Foundation sketch: seeks meaning and connection, insightful about motives, conscientious, committed to values, can organize a vision for the common good. Usually taught as leading with introverted intuition and extraverted feeling. At work: counsel, writing, strategy that includes humans. Common miss: waiting to be understood instead of making a plain request.
INFP
Foundation sketch: idealistic, loyal to values and to important people, curious about possibilities, catalyst for ideas, adaptable unless a value is threatened. Usually taught as leading with introverted feeling and extraverted intuition. At work: craft with a point of view. Common miss: rejecting a workable option because it is not a perfect story.
ENFJ
Foundation sketch: warm, empathetic, responsive, attuned to others’ needs and motives, finds potential in people, loyal, sociable, often an inspiring lead. Usually taught as leading with extraverted feeling and introverted intuition. At work: teaching, people leadership. Common miss: unofficial labor that never gets a name or a salary.
ENFP
Foundation sketch: enthusiastic, imaginative, sees possibilities, connects events quickly, warm, spontaneous, improvises, verbally fluent. Usually taught as leading with extraverted intuition and introverted feeling. At work: early ideas, rooms that were flat. Common miss: promises made while the idea is still hot, with no owner for the last step.
Research standing
NF types are over-represented in some samples of teachers in English, social studies, and arts. That is a sampling observation, not a rule that NF people must teach. MBTI still has the same reliability limits described on the overview page.

Functions behind the four codes
INFJ is usually taught as introverted intuition with extraverted feeling. INFP as introverted feeling with extraverted intuition. ENFJ as extraverted feeling with introverted intuition. ENFP as extraverted intuition with introverted feeling. Harmony versus authenticity is the usual inner fight in this group. Take the Jung test if you care more about Fe versus Fi than about the four letters.
Keirsey called the temperament Idealists: Counselor (INFJ), Healer / Harmonizer (INFP), Teacher / Mentor (ENFJ), Champion / Advocate (ENFP). Treat the names as memory aids.
